Frequently asked questions

The quick answers. For the full tour, see How CityPointz Works.

How do I earn XP and Pointz?

Complete a GPS-verified check-in at a real place. A first visit currently earns 35 XP, while a repeat visit earns 25 XP. Successful check-ins currently award 15 Pointz. Reward values and limits may be adjusted as CityPointz evolves.

Why is there a timer?

The visit timer helps confirm that you are actually spending time at the place instead of checking in while passing by. The required time may differ by place type.

How close do I need to be?

Each place has a check-in radius. Small businesses generally require you to be closer, while malls, parks, large stores, and attractions can use a larger range. Admins can correct a place that needs a special radius.

What happens when I travel?

You can earn XP and Pointz anywhere CityPointz supports. Your XP still counts toward the city, state or region, and country selected as your home location. Visiting Atlanta does not move a Castroville user onto Atlanta's leaderboard.

Why am I only on the Overall leaderboard?

Your city, state/region, and country must all be set on your Profile. Without them, CityPointz cannot place you on local leaderboards, but you can still appear Overall.

Why can't I check in?

You may be outside the allowed radius, your GPS accuracy may be too weak, the visit timer may not be complete, or you may have already checked in there for the current cooldown period.

Why is a place missing or incorrect?

CityPointz is still growing. Use Report a Missing Place, or open a support ticket for incorrect information. Submissions are reviewed to prevent duplicates.

How do I report a bug or suggestion?

Open Support from the menu, create a ticket, and choose Bug or Suggestion. You can see admin replies inside My Tickets.
